Scalp Micropigmentation Care by Exfoliation

Scalp Micropigmentation Care by Exfoliation

What is scalp exfoliation for Scalp Micropigmentation SMP?

While the body naturally replaces dead skin cells with new skin cells, it can be highly beneficial to enhance this natural process by exfoliating on a regular basis and particularly on the scalp.

Scalp exfoliation involves using particle or chemical exfoliates to remove dead skin cells and oil from the scalp, and many SMP experts maintain that regular scalp exfoliation is critical to a healthier, more radiant looking scalp and long term pigmentation retention.

Scalp exfoliation benefits

Scalp exfoliation can be a refreshing way to invigorate the scalp and it can benefit almost anyone that is prepared to commit the time to do it. This is particularly true for those that have undergone SMP treatment or are planning to. It is important to note here that the scalp, just like all other skin requires consistent care and maintenance.

How to exfoliate your scalp

You should aim to exfoliate your scalp once or twice a week. It is best to exfoliate during bathing using a splash of water so that the exfoliate lathers and spreads evenly over the scalp. Simply apply the exfoliate with your fingertips and massage gently in a circular motion. You can also use a brush or glove designed for exfoliation though for best results, it's recommended that you use a gentle, chemical free particle exfoliate. Avoid the cheaper exfoliates. It’s worth spending a few extra dollars for a good quality chemical free product. Your skin will thank you for it.

Potential side effects and risks

You shouldn’t exfoliate your scalp if you have:

  • an active infection, such as ringworm
  • open cuts or sores

In some cases, people with sensitive skin may find that certain chemical, sugar or salt based exfoliants are too harsh for their scalp. We have found that exfoliates made using fine cosmetic coffee granules work best for Scalp Micropigmentation. If you experience discomfort, swelling, or irritation while exfoliating, you should discontinue use and consult your doctor if the symptoms persists. Though in using an organic, all natural exfoliate, it’s unlikely you will experience any side effects unless you are prone to allergies. This can vary case by case.
